Today I had the pleasure and the burden to know the Mexican artist Elina Chauvet,on the occasion of the exhibition “Zapatos Rojos”, Red shoes. The public art project, which will appeal to citizens to express their solidarity with women who have suffered violence. It comes from Ciudad Juarez, frontier town between Mexico and the United States, where every year are killed, raped or disapper hundreds of women (584 women killed only in 2010). It is ‘from here that Elina Chauvet, four years ago, with the 33 pairs of red shoes begins to bring her message into the streets of the World, Mexico, Texas and now in Italy.Footwear red, symbol of every woman there is no more and to say stop to gender violence.
The installation is now in Italy, Bergamo until May 15, everyone is invited to bring a pair of women’s shoes red, painted or to paint.
Elina Chauvet has chosen my own shoes to take with herself in Mexico. I’m really proud to have contributed to this important project.
